miami fav #112 / the knight foundation

i love miami. i’ve made this very clear for 112+ posts. and, the one thing i love most about miami is that it has so much potential. you can see it everywhere. and furthermore i love that i am here during a time when so much of that potential is coming to life. for a lot of that, we can thank the knight foundation. everything amazing i have been to in this city (miami book fair, youngarts miami events, classical music concerts at the knight concert hall, random acts of culture, the gusman theater, etc.) and everything i am most excited about (borscht film festival, o miami, o cinema, sleepless nights, dawntown, etc.) have all been touched by the knight foundation. these people (alberto and dennis - and their amazing staff) are making things happen here. this city is exploding with culture and art - and it’s because they’re funding it. with money AND energy. for all of this, i am more than grateful.
i’ve thought about posting this kf love-fest post for awhile - i am always truly in awe of their kindness and dedication to our amazing artists, creatives and cultural organizations - but as they’re accepting submissions for their 2011 knight arts grant, the timing couldn’t be better. so, if you’re a person who wants to help make miami a better place; who wants to make this city a cultural destination; who is inspired by all of the creative magic happening throughout the city; apply (!) so that the knight foundation can help you, and miami, succeed. see below for more details (and if you apply, thanks in advance for being so freaking awesome - and, good luck!). with love, m

You’re here because, like us, you believe the arts are the highest form of human expression. They describe beauty, speak to our soul, engage and enrage. They celebrate our community’s diversity and etch our shared experience. The arts inspire.
It’s your turn to inspire South Florida’s growing local arts scene.
The Knight Arts Challenge is a Miami-based initiative to draw the best and most innovative ideas out of local organizations and individuals seeking to transform the community through the arts. If you have a great idea in the arts, let us know. Take part in a community rising to new levels of artistic achievement and global recognition. In the last two years, 51 ideas were funded. Is this your year?
John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is seeking ideas and innovation in the arts from nonprofits, companies and individuals. There are three simple rules:
- The idea is about arts.
- The project takes place in or benefits South Florida.
- You find other funding to match the Knight Foundation grant.
